Derek graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and served 12 years as an Army Officer on active duty.
In 2007 after a search for a new career, Derek found that construction was the best fit because it offers many similarities to the military, and still allows him to serve his 10 years in the Washington Army National Guard.
Derek’s interest in the construction industry lies in his desire to understand the most economical and efficient buildings that can be built. Because of this, Derek has secured green credentials as a LEED AP BD&C, and LEED AP for Homes, plus certification as Certified Passive House Consult. With these credentials, he has served on some high profile green projects.
Derek’s favorite part of being a project manager is working within a team to resolve problems and get projects completed.
